Taste Of Saugatuck

The 24th annual Taste of Saugatuck will be held Sunday, Aug. 28, at Wick’s Park and Water Street in downtown Saugatuck from noon to 7 p.m.

This family event brings together more than a dozen local culinary artisans and restaurants preparing a vast array of edibles. Featured items this year include barbecue sandwiches, Margarita chicken, roasted chicken, pork ribs, ice cream desserts, pies, pizza, and various wraps and sandwiches. Some of the restaurants joining the Taste of Saugatuck this year are Mermaid Bar & Grill, The White House Bistro, Wick’s Park Bar & Grille, The Hickory Pit, Spectators, River Market,

Kilwin’s, Salt of the Earth, Fennville Station, Uncommon Grounds, Earl’s Farm Market and Zing.

A beer tent featuring beer from the Saugatuck Brewing Co. is being featured; along with wine from all three local wineries: Fenn Valley, Tabor Hill and Round Barn.

A special kids corner will be available to entertain children. This year will also see the return of Shoreline Realtor’s “Celebrity Dunk Tank.” The Gazebo in the park will feature live entertainment all afternoon.

There is no general admission charge. Food and beverage tickets are available in 50-cent increments and no single taste item is more than $5.

Taste of Saugatuck, through its association with the Saugatuck/Douglas Convention & Visitors Bureau, raises funds for local school scholarships and events. This year, co-chairs Sharon Shanahan and David Barton said the event will offer a scholarship for a student entering the hospitality and culinary industry.

About This Event
The goal of the Town Crier 5K & 10K is to provide an outstanding competitive event for runners that encourages health, exercise and fun for all! Two new courses this year-the 10K which includes a loop on the bike path and woods southwest of town and the 5K winding around historic Saugatuck. Run both races for just one entry fee. The 1K Crier Kids Dash is a non-competitive fun run to interest kids in running as a sport. The Town Crier will benefit Saugatuck Public School athletics, Community Recreation, Saugatuck Youth Center and SABA.

Race Details
The 10K begins at 9 a.m. Next is the Crier Kids Dash at 9:15 a.m The 5K will begin between 10 and 10:15 a.m. depending on the 10K finishers. Register now online or by mail with a registration form (click here for a PDF of the Town Crier Race brochure and registration form) to: Town Crier 5K, c/o SABA, P.O. Box 221, Saugatuck, MI 49453. After the race, there will be refreshments and the award ceremony at Coral Gables Restaurant, 220 Water Street. Showers at will be open for runners at the Pump House Gym, 6492 Blue Star Highway.

Crier Kids Dash
The Crier Kids Dash is a noncompetitive fun run for younger kids. All runners will win a ribbon. The Kids Dash is free.

Parking and Lodging
Park up the hill on Griffith Street and walk the Main Street walking path to Butler or park downtown on Water Street, Mary Street or streets north of Mary.

Late Registration & Packet Pick Up
Late registration and packet pick up information will be forthcoming..

Awards
10K overall winners, men and women, will receive $100 in SABA Bucks, redeemable at any Saugatuck-Douglas Area Business Association member. 10K Master men and women winners and Grand Master men and women winners will receive a $30 Gazelle gift certificate.

5K overall winners, men and women, will receive $75 in SABA Bucks . 5K Master men and women winners and Grand Master men and women winners will receive a $20 Gazelle gift certificate.

First, second and third place winners in each age group, men and women, will receive the Town Crier bell. Only one award per runner per event.

$25 through April 2 including the Town Crier t shirt

St. Patrick's Day Festival

9TH ANNUAL ST PATRICK'S DAY FESTIVAL
Saugatuck, MI. –The Saugatuck/Douglas Convention & Visitors Bureau will sponsor the 9th Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival on Saturday, March 12, 2011. In honor of the event, the two communities have been renamed O'Saugatuck & McDouglas by proclamation of their respective city councils for this special occasion.

At 2 pm on March 12th, back by popular demand, is the pet themed, “Erin Go Bark!” People and their Pets Parade. Visitors as well as local residents are invited to participate in the parade to express their “Irish Side.” Participants are encouraged to include their pets in the event by dressing them in a “wee bit of green”. Awards will be given to the top three best dressed pets. You don't have to claim Irish lineage to celebrate, so dress your dog, build a shamrock float, dress like a leprechaun or decorate you car. Line up for the parade will be in the parking lot at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts at 1:30 pm.

The 5th annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl sponsored by the Ship N Shore Motel will be held on March 12th beginning at 2 pm. Guests will be visiting area pubs and bars via trolley and on foot to enjoy fine spirits, food & camaraderie. For more information call 269-857-2194.

Following the pet parade, join Christian Neighbors for a flash-mob in Douglas at 3pm in Berry Field where organizers will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people singing 'O Danny Boy at one time. Bring a canned good to donate to the needy!

Following the Pub Crawl, participants continue the celebration as the Pub Party begins at Coral Gables in Saugatuck, sponsored by the Ship 'N Shore Motel.

Area restaurants will be preparing a variety of Irish drinks, traditional fare and wonderful dining specials throughout the weekend.
