What: Experience the most magical time of year as Meijer Gardens transforms into a world of winter magic with the glow of 300,000 lights, more than 40 captivating international trees and displays, strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides and more surprises than can fit under the tree. The gorgeous holiday displays will be even more extensive this year, with additions to the nativity scenes, the Railway Garden and the Diwali display in the Lena Meijer Conservatory. Diwali is the five-day Hindu festival known as the “Festival of the Lights.” Hindus in India and Nepal mark the end of the harvest season with colorful designs made of sand, rice and flowers, especially marigolds. The Gardens Holiday Express train exhibit, a holiday favorite designed by railway garden designer Paul Busse, winds its way through three separate indoor garden and will feature five new structures: the Lena Meijer Conservatory, Civic Theater, Fish Ladder, Covered Bridges and Temple Emanuel. The new nativity scene this year is the Polish Szopka (pronounced shop-ka). The ornate structures are replicas of the most beautiful buildings of Krakow, with the Bethlehem stable scene situated on the second floor.
