Grammy winning, iconic singer/songwriter Janis Ian comes to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts for this one-night only performance.
When she was just 15, Ian recorded her self-titled debut which included "Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)," a meditation on interracial romance written by Ian while waiting to meet with her school guidance counselor. The song went to the upper rungs of the pop charts and made Ian an overnight sensation. Her 1975 album, “Between the Lines” included the pop smash, “At Seventeen” which reached #1 on the U.S. charts and won Ian a Grammy.
During her 40+ year career, Ian’s songs have been recorded by a bevy of artists including Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, Joan Baez, Amy Grant, and more. Her most recent CD, “Best of Janis Ian”, includes completely remastered tracks from "Society's Child," "At Seventeen," "Stars," and a host of others. She continues to tour around the globe – this is Ian’s ONLY scheduled stop in West Michigan during 2011!
