The Eschelons originally formed in the late 1950s in Grand Rapids. They released three 45-rpm recordings during 1961 and 1962 and were among the most popular bands of that time.
In 2005 the original six members reunited, added an additional musician and a sound technician, and quickly became West Michigan’s foremost oldies band. Performing the music they love, The Eschelons play 50s and early 60s rock ‘n’ roll, doo-wop and blues, often displaying three, four and five-part vocal harmonies reminiscent of the music of that period.
Five vocalists, keyboards, sax, harmonica, guitar, bass and drums, and an array of percussion blend to bring you the pleasure of old friendships and the memories of Rock ‘N’ Roll’s childhood. Some of the songs that we play are Sea Cruise, In My Room, Where or When, Kansas City, Remember Then, I’m Tore Down, and Yakety Yak. Some artists we cover are The Lettermen, The Coasters, The Velvets, The Beach Boys, Dion & the Belmonts, Freddie King, and The Stereos. We have some originals, too.
The members of The Eschelons are:
Al Bischoff – sax, harmonica, percussion & vocals
Jack Hazewinkel – bass
Vic Hill – percussion & vocals
Jim VanPutten – sax, percussion & vocals
Warren Beatty – keyboards & vocals
Dick Beatty/Rob Beatty – drums
Ron Beatty – guitar & vocals
John Hoekstra – sound
