Grammy-award winner Meredith Arwady and the multi-talented pianist Andrew Le will take the stage together for an unforgettable performance at the SCA!
An Evening with Meredith Arwady and & Andrew Le is offered in partnership with the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck (CMFS).
Reserved tickets are available for $25/each, or $35/each for premier tickets that include a post-show reception with the artists.
The performance will include cabaret and American Songbook favorites as well as opera selections sung by Arwady, who was just awarded the Best Opera Recording Grammy in 2012. Le, the first-place winner of the 2004 Hilton Head International Piano Competition and Co-CMFS Artistic Director, will accompany Arwardy, as well as perform solo pieces on the piano.
“This concert marks a celebration of anniversaries for our organizations,” shares Kristin Armstrong, SCA Executive Director. “2012 is the 25th anniversary of the Chamber Music Festival and the 10th anniversary for the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. We thought co-hosting a concert with truly outstanding performers would be the perfect way to celebrate with – and thank the community – for helping us both reach these milestones.”
Grammy-award winning contralto Meredith Arwady is also a winner of the 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Her style is described by the New York Times as having a “deep, dark vocal richness and expressive nobility.” In the summer of 2012, she will perform Mahler’s 8th Symphony at the Aspen Music Festival. Born in Michigan, Arwady graduated from Hope College and received a Master of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music.
In addition to his post with the CMFS, Dr. Andrew Le (Drew) is currently Head of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Piano at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Described as "individualistic without a trace of contrivance or eccentricity" by critic Harris Goldsmith of the New York Concert Review, Drew is known for his exciting, engaging, and artistically sensitive performances. He holds a Doctor of Music Arts degree from the Juilliard School.

The group has shown a spotlight on our area's rich cultural heritage, and supported freedom of artistic expression. As a result, the Art Club has served as an incubator, sponsor, and supporter of both artists and new arts organizations in its artistically vibrant hometowns.
This retrospective exhibition is a celebration of the legacy of the Saugatuck/Douglas Art Club. Begun as a way for artists to support each other during the winter months in Michigan, the club has grown into a vibrant arts organization that has gifted nearly $200,000 in scholarship money, supporting local students who wish to continue their education in the arts.

The most thorough documentary exploration of the three days of unrest beginning June 28, 1969, when patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a seedy Mafia-operated gay bar in Greenwich Village, turned on the police after a routine raid, “Stonewall Uprising” methodically ticks off the forms of oppression visited on gays and lesbians in the days before the gay rights movement.
At the time of the riots, homosexuality was illegal in every state except Illinois. Before the laws were changed, one commentator observes, gay bars offered the same kind of social haven for an oppressed minority as black churches in the South before the civil rights movement.
Directed by Kate Davis and David Heilbroner, this all-new assemblage of rare home-movie footage, photographs, and gripping testimony from people who were there — including one of the cops who led the raid — allows viewers to experience a landmark civil rights event in a fresh and fascinating way.

This exhibition, created in collaboration with the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society, takes a fascinating look at how West Michigan’s unique micro-climate created a fruit growing industry worth millions of dollars. In turn, the seemingly endless bushels of fruit ultimately led to the basket factory, fruit grower’s bank, the fruit exchange, and shipping industry right here in Saugatuck-Douglas. And ultimately, the Lloyd J Harris Pie Company – which today is the Saugatuck Center for the Arts.
Using photography, text, and drawings, PIE describes the village economy, culture, and history of the fruit growing industry from the planting of orchards in the 1820’s to the unlikely but highly successful adaptive re-use of an abandoned Pie factory turned Arts center in 2003.

Bob Milne is considered to be the best ragtime/boogie-woogie pianist in the world. He was filmed and documented for future generations in 2004 during three days of interviews at the Library of Congress, and was declared a “National Treasure” at the conclusion.
Milne teaches music history at various universities around the country, and is also the founder and director of the Frankenmuth Ragtime Festival in Michigan. He currently teaches music and music history at Florida/Atlantic University every winter for Lifelong Learning. His courses are among the most popular in the curriculum.
He has appeared at numerous festivals around the world including, the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival (Sedalia, Missouri), the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Eau Claire Ragtime Festival, Sacramento Ragtime Festive, and many others.

Acoustic Arts Custom Music Production LLC specializes in creative, original music for full-length CDs, commercial broadcast, and video underscoring. Acoustic Arts Custom Music Production LLC specializes in creative, original music for full-length CDs, commercial broadcast, and video underscoring. Roger MacNaughton, BMI, was named Urban Institute Composer of the Year 2000 following the release of his first CD, Summer Dance.

Smooth as a dry martini and equally intoxicating, smoky-voiced Chantal Chamberland returns to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts over Labor Day Weekend for her only U.S. appearance of 2010!
Chamberland (accompanied by her full band) dishes up sultry renditions of pop and jazz hits ranging from the Bee Gee’s "How Deep is your Love” to the Rodgers and Hart classic "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered”. Toronto Life Magazine calls Chantal, “A consummate jazz cabaret performer; the owner of a husky, longing-laden voice that can suggest both passion and nostalgia.” Jazz on the Rocks says of her current album, “The Other Woman”, “Just when you thought the voice could not get any smoother, stronger or sexier, Chantal serves up this latest release.”
Chamberland, who is a Canadian grammy winner, was raised in Montreal on the music of Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald and Artie Shaw. Eventually, she moved to Ontario to pursue music professionally. Chamberland launched her professional career as part of an acoustic folk-rock duo, performing at venues and festivals throughout North America and sharing the stage with notables including Sarah McLachlan and the Barenaked Ladies. She then took a brief sabbatical during and began exploring new areas of music and experimenting in a genre that had always been close to her heart – Jazz. Since then, Chamberland has never looked back.
Says music writer Jerry D’Souza, “Chantal has a warm, toasty voice that can light up a dark room and send a glow through her audience.” Her vocal delivery is so alluring that Canadian music critic, Nick Krewen, describes her singing as "making love to her songs".
