Following the pet parade, join Christian Neighbors for a flash-mob in Douglas at 3pm in Berry Field where organizers will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people singing 'O Danny Boy at one time. Bring a canned good to donate to the needy!

Following the Pub Crawl, participants continue the celebration as the Pub Party begins at Coral Gables in Saugatuck, sponsored by the Ship 'N Shore Motel.

Area restaurants will be preparing a variety of Irish drinks, traditional fare and wonderful dining specials throughout the weekend.

Butterflies Are Blooming

Date: Tuesday, March 1, 2011- April 30, 2011
Start Time: 9:00 am End Time: 5:00 pm
(Time Zone: US/Eastern)

Location: Meijer Gardens

Category: West Michigan Coastal Surrounding Areas

Here are the details:

Butterflies Are Blooming is Meijer Gardens' most popular annual exhibition and the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibit in the nation. March 1–April 30, visitors can escape the Michigan winter and mingle with more than 6,000 tropical butterflies flying free in the 15,000-square-foot Lena Meijer Conservatory.

The exhibition boasts more than 40 different species from the Far East, Africa and Central America. Each week hundreds of chrysalises arrive at Meijer Gardens and are painstakingly sorted, inspected, labeled and pinned in our sealed Butterfly Bungalow. The chrysalises are then placed in a special emergence area of the Bungalow where visitors can witness through a window their magical transformation into butterflies!

Once ready to be released into the Conservatory, the butterflies are placed on plants where they acclimate to the environment and gain strength before taking to the air. It's a wonderful place for photos and just one of the opportunities for visitors to observe the butterflies up-close and personal. Throughout the tropical environment, butterflies can be viewed drinking nectar from the flowering plants and feeding stations, lighting on the odd nose or shoulder, and congregating along the stream beds, as well as in flight all around.

During the exhibition, the Lena Meijer Children's Garden offers special activities. Additionally, interactive displays are featured throughout.

Exhibit hours: Monday, Wednesday–Sunday, 9 am–5 pm; Tuesday, 9 am-9 pm

The Hot Club Of Detroit With Special Guest Cyrille-Aimée Daudel

Date: Friday, February 25, 2011
Start Time: 8:00 pm

Location: Saugatuck Center For The Arts

Category: Saugatuck & Douglas Events

Here are the details:

Experience the sexy, infectious rhythms of “Gypsy” and world beat jazz with this five-time Detroit Music Award winning group – and live swing dancers! The swinging sound originated in the nightclubs of Paris but now the music pulses in clubs from Tokyo to San Francisco to Madrid. Allmusic.com calls Hot Club’s work “breathless and heady” and says, “Through mood changes, tempo shifts, dynamic ranges, and advanced harmonic palette, the Hot Club of Detroit never lets up.”

While the Hot Club of Detroit has been influenced by the gypsy jazz of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France with Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, this quintet is different in its makeup, with guitarist Evan Perri, accordionist Julien Labro, multi-reed player Carl Cafagna, rhythm guitarist Paul Brady, and bassist Andrew Kratzat.

Touring behind their new disk, “It’s About That Time”, Hot Club of Detroit has thrown their musical doors wide open, fusing gypsy, world beat, and jazz rhythms into a “can’t-sit-still” performance.

See why Jazz & Blues Report says, “this band sizzles with originality, enthusiasm, and consummate musicianship.”

Guest vocalist Cyrille Aimée has consistently proven herself to be an unstoppable, undeniable talent in the modern age of jazz. Her culturally rich background has supplied her with the driving force of Dominican rhythm and the incredible swing of the French Gypsies. Cyrille Aimée was a finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition of 2010, performing in front of a jury of Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Gladys Knight. In 2007, Cyrille won both the first and public prize in the Montreux Jazz Festival Competition.
